Gender Reveal Party

We had our ultrasound appointment on a Thursday but were waiting until Sunday to tell our friends and family the news at our gender reveal party.  I spent most of the weekend baking up some yummy treats (with both blue and pink touches so as not to give away the secret), including a cake that would be the way we shared our news!  I wanted to be sure that the color of the actual cake was well hidden, so I had my first experience making and using fondant (which was not as hard as I would have thought).  I was pretty excited with the way it turned out though!

Before we cut the cake, everyone at the party had to write down their guesses.  We had several people on FaceTime so they could see the reveal live, so we wrote down their guesses for them.  The final tally was:

Once everyone got to the party it was finally time to cut the cake and let everyone in on the secret.  It was a big worry of mine that Chris or I would slip up with a "she" sometime between when we found out and when we told everyone, but luckily that didn't happen.  So it was a big relief to finally cut the cake and let everyone know that it's a GIRL!!!

Here is the reaction of everyone celebrating after we cut the cake....

Or else you can watch the reveal live in this video....

Before everyone left, we wanted to get pictures of the people on Team Girl.... (please note that Chris and I had signed up before the ultrasound - we have several people who can verify this too!)

And those on Team Boy... (for guessing incorrectly we said that each of the people on this team has to change a dirty diaper before they can hold the baby) :-)

I am so excited to have a future Delta Gamma on my hands ... and was so glad to have my fellow DG's there to be a part of the reveal!

A big thank you to each and every person who came to the party (whether in person or via FaceTime) - it meant so much to Chris and I to have so many people to share our happy news with, and we could not feel luckier to have such wonderful friends and family in our lives.  This little baby girl is so lucky because she is already loved by so many people!

21 Weeks - It's a GIRL!!

We had our ultrasound a couple of weeks ago and finally got to find out whether we were having a girl or a boy.  To say we were excited would be an understatement!!  I wanted the baby to be moving around during the ultrasound and not just sleeping so I saved a cookie from my lunch to eat before the appointment.  Well on the way to KU Med I decided I was hungry for a banana as well, so I ate that on my drive to the hospital.  Between the cookie and the banana I may have overdone it because baby definitely wasn't sleeping!  The ultrasound techs had trouble getting some of the measurements because baby was moving around like crazy!!!  (At one point while trying to take some measurements on the face they said they couldn't because baby's foot was in the way)  They were finally able to get all of the measurements they needed, and after making us wait nearly the entire appointment we finally got to find out what we were so anxiously wanting to know....

She gave us a really nice shot of her lady parts, and both of the ultrasound techs said there was no doubting it - we were having a baby girl!!!  Chris had said he was 98% sure that it was a girl the entire time, but I was about 60% thinking it was a girl (so really I had no clue!)  We are both so excited for our baby girl and can't wait to meet her in four months!  I am thrilled to bring some pink into the house because so far I haven't been able to use that color in our decorating scheme!  We left the ultrasound with big smiles on our faces and some other good pictures of our baby girl!

We could not wait to share the news with everyone, but had to keep the secret for a couple of days.....

20 Weeks...halfway there!

We had our 20 week appointment this week and there really isn't too much to report.  We got to hear our baby's strong, little heartbeat which is such an amazing thing to hear!  I am also starting to feel little "flutters" from the little one moving around, but am looking forward to some more pronounced movement that Chris will be able to feel too!

In other exciting baby news, we were able to schedule the ultrasound where we should (hopefully) be able to find out whether we are having a little boy or girl!!  Let's all cross our fingers that baby actually cooperates and we are able to find out as planned.  We are then planning on spilling the beans at our "Gender Reveal Party" a couple of days later, so stay tuned for a video from that announcement!

Work on the baby's room has officially begun!  We were able to get the room completely cleaned out, which was a huge feat if you saw how many clothes were in that closet.   (Also helpful was the fact that we donated six trash bags full of clothing we hadn't worn in who knows how long to Goodwill!)  Chris started work in there by mudding some holes in the walls/ceiling, and then we also painted the baby's closet!  It was a dingy white with several scuff marks, so we decided to go with a neutral yellow in the closet just to spice it up a bit in there.  Now we just need to find out what color we are going paint the rest of the room... :)
